SSR Vienna Kreis: The final touch for Justin’s JZS171 Crown

Updated: Apr 28

Stumbling across our stall at a local car meet, we saw Justin go straight to a set of Riverside MAE wheels on display. Unfortunately that particular set was already sold, but luckily the JDM VIP wheel range is vast.

Justin's love for the Japanese automotive world stems back from his younger years growing up in Japan.

“My dad used to export cars over to Australia so he would always bring home cool cars and I was like ‘wow, I would love to do that someday’,” Justin said.

“When I graduated uni I bought myself the Crown, it has everything and more that I wanted in a car and I have now had it for about three years.”

Quickly falling in love with the car’s timeless design and comfort, Justin says the car is a perfect fit for him – all that was missing were some wheels to tie the whole thing together.

“I have wanted VIP-styled wheels for a long time. I really liked the style of the British super touring wheels with aero-covers which looked just like the Vienna Kreis faces.

“I researched a fair bit and had Sak’s input on what would be the best for sizing, spec and fitment and these turned out perfect.”

We were able to help Justin from start to finish from sourcing the wheels from Japan all the way through to restoring them to their former glory.

The set has new outer lips, resprayed faces, restored centre caps, rewelded lip and barrel to maintain load ratings, and a final a tidy up of the barrels.

SSR released the Vienna range which is no longer available but are one of the original VIP models the company produced. This style of wheel is not often seen nowadays but they are a nod to the early 2000s VIP style and Justin has stuck to a very period-correct look.

“The wheels are something that ties the car to the road and it’s one of the first things you see on a car from the side, which is the largest profile on it.

“The wheels are the easiest thing to change on a car and I think it sort of reflects a person’s personality and what their style is.

“I think that’s why it’s important to have a nice set of wheels on your car.”
